July - Best & Worst

July was a busy month for us. Temps in the triple digits, power outages and health challenges for us both occurred.

I began a series of Laser eye surgery treatments and injections to correct my emergency visual impairment incident from back in March. . I also got a call. tip or head's up about an opening for an apartment we applied to. The request was for are we interested and do we still want to be on the wait list; it will be available in a few months. Of course, its nothing official yet, but here we go again. So . we'll just have to wait and see. Waitlists are like chutes & ladders, one fire, or one veteran, applies and we get bumped. Considering what's going on with my eyes, it's in an area closer to my doctors and has a lot more services for seniors and disabled people.

Sven was still healing up from a raging ear infection last month at the doggie ER, followed by a round of vaccine updates, a physical exam and some more interventions due to his thyroid & pyoderma. To which all are responding remarkably well to the medications. Get him to take his meds, well that's always a challenge and he held out for some high-end treats, roast beef, mozzarella balls, cream cheese, pineapple chunks, pumpkin bars, and whatever else i could rustle up from the fridge in a pinche. .

All said we are not happy with how he was treated at our last visit and have since left the practice and in search of a new one yet again. In short, he was wearing a muzzle due to being in pain, and how people move to fast to want to touch him. The doctor tried to shove a syringe between the muzzle into his mouth without asking me first and terrorizing a scared, anxious, sore service dog, that just probably ruined trips to the vet for the rest of his life. We had issues with them withholding blood lab results, lying and telling me he was fine, when there's several things flagged in the results, no refills on prescriptions they're telling me he needs for life, battles over losing weight. Telling me he has a large mass or fluid in the abdomen, a heart rate of 120 (after just being terrorized, muzzled, anxious and warm outside) she wanted him to lose weight. Great Danes can get up to 220 lbs, Sven is 208 currently, other vets said he's fine at this and couldn't the weight be due to the mass or fluid? I'm sorry but I'm not going to death march my dog, to lose that much in 30 days middle of summer. That's cruelty.

I had far more than enough, the poor treatment alone was enough, but the not caring or following up with tests and referrals that we've been waiting on for siz weeks was just over-the-top, and it turned into a battle of wills, control, and more of a "what can we bill you for" situation rather than a "what can we do for You" one which is clearly not in the best interests of the dog at all.

I quit their practice and have a good mind to turn them over to the veterinary board.

For now, he's home, he's stable and doing light duty medical alert while I search for a new clinic in the local area.

Below are some pictures from our travels. Target & Walmart for some new pots and pans, after our stovetop malfunctioned and ruined a few of them. Farmer's Market, Dollar Tree with the Halloween decor in mid-July! We went for pizza in Salem. And I can't believe I ate $30 worth of cherries.
