March Madness

Well, the blarney started early this month. We got a call for an apartment at the southern end of our county and about as far as I’d be willing to move to, and even then, not really. It was rather unexpected and gave us a bit of hope. But boy did that meeting ever go sideways fast. The interviewer or paper processer was ripping things up that I’d put together for our reasonable accommodations request, they were trying to evade and get around putting us in an HP unit, which was on all our original documents, next it was sign waivers and so forth and so on. It just devolved into being a very unwelcoming, hostile and adversarial encounter. I finally told them they could shove off. I would be forwarding the matter to MCAD & HUD. Sometimes you just have to draw a line and stand up for rights, no matter the loss or it will just keep perpetuating itself.

St Patty’s dinner turned out to be a bit of a disappointment when the deli meat purchased was cut and sliced the wrong way, and turned into shoe leather. Sigh. Fortunately, we had a do over the following week when I picked up a brisket unexpectedly while at the market.

A few days later we got a call out of the blue from another apartment unit nearly at the northeaster boarder of our local county, about as far as I’d be willing to go. We’d all but thought they’d forgotten about us completely. They had a first floor hp unit available! I jumped at the chance and we went to look at it. The look on Sven’s face when we opened the door was priceless, he sniffed around everywhere and then sat, as if to alert, but I know he meant yes, this is it, we’re home and he was claiming it. Fortunately, we were approved, just waiting on some finalization of a few documents from HUD and expect to move by the end of April, if all goes well. Amen. Amen, Amen… I really was getting sick of making all the copies and forms over and over again each time we heard from a place and then all the dead ends and waitlists after telling us we made it to the top of the list, but no units available, they were just vetting us. It’s a murderous process, somehow, we got through it and honestly, as hard as it was, I feel like we’re in the right place for us, all the other stuff doesn’t matter anymore and the staff couldn’t have been any nicer. It’s a great fit.

Of course, it didn’t help me sleep any easier I went from the anxiety of searching to the anxiety of packing, but at least it’s a good anxiety this time around. We’ve been this close before and things went sideways, so I’ll announce where after we sign and pick up keys.

Now if only we could find some thin mint cookies to celebrate with. Not a girl scout around, we’d gone up to some of the booth sites, but they were sold out. Well Darn.

Below are a few photos, we really didn’t take many this month, we were so busy we didn’t have much of a chance or opportunity to. Any for anyone that didn’t guess by now… Aven is going as Dusty Hill from ZZ top for Halloween! Two for one on the St Patty’s beard. LOL

So glad y'all have found an apartment. Can't wait to see photos and hear all about it.
